Explore Lamar Valley at dawn to search for Yellowstone's world-famous wolves, grizzly bears, bison, and lesser-known wildlife species with your local naturalist guide.

A sunrise start gives you the best possible chance to see harder-to-spot species such as wolves and grizzly bears. Along the way, you’ll learn about wildlife habitat and behavior from a guide who lives in this ecosystem.

Your guide will employ their years of experience, connections with the local wildlife watching community, knowledge of recent wildlife activity, and on-the-ground observations to determine the best viewing locations for the day; usually, we will visit the wildlife-rich Lamar Valley and surrounding areas.

Most of the very best wildlife watching in Yellowstone is had from the roadside. Therefore, we usually spend the prime wildlife watching hours of early morning near the road corridor, sometimes with short walks to access better viewing locations and to escape the crowds. Mid-morning, we can shift our attention to species that tend to remain active as the temperatures rise throughout the morning, or we can set off on foot to immerse ourselves in Yellowstone’s wild landscapes on a short hike.

Spectacular Day!
Brett S.
Spectacular July day with Carolyn! We spotted wolves, pronghorn, bison, a mountain goat, a bald eagle and osprey! Took a short hike to trout lake, learned how to identify pine, spruce and fir trees. Carolyn shared history of the park and a great story about Ed Howell and saving the bison in 1894. Awesome time for my 12 year old daughter and 17 year old son.
Highlight of Our Trip
Tammy E.
We just got back from a wonderful trip to Yellowstone and the Highlight of the trip was our Wolves and Wildlife Tour with Yellowstone Wildlife Profiles. Josh was our guide and he was fantastic. So patient with our son's questions and ours. My son who is 8 is still talking about this day to everyone who asks about our trip. We saw wolves from two different packs, a grizzly, black bear, pronghorns, mountain goats, bison, and a big horn sheep plus an osprey nest with babies and two adults flying around. You will not regret picking Yellowstone Wildlife Profiles to guide you through the Lamar valley or anywhere else in the Park!
Amazing Experience
Jill R.
My husband and I booked Yellowstone Wildlife Profiles for the wolves and wildlife tour of the Lamar Valley on May 23, 2024. We are so happy that we did this. Our experience was amazing from start to finish. We were fortunate to get Brad, the co-owner, as our guide. He shared his expertise and knowledge and took time to get to know our interests which made the day even more enjoyable. Brad met us right on time at 5:15 on the morning of our tour and confirmed our hopes for the day. We then set out for the Lamar Valley. By 8, we had watched a wolf and a grizzly square off over a bison carcass and seen a mother wolf and 2 of her pups. Brad had spotting scopes and binoculars for both of us and attached my husband's cell phone to one of the scopes to take pictures and videos. Later in the morning, we saw a moose, another grizzly with 3 cubs, and a fox as well as numerous bison, pronghorns, and birds and nests. Brad was a good, safe driver and offered frequent bathroom breaks. He had snacks and had hot water and makings for coffee, tea, or hot chocolate which we appreciated on a cold and snowy day. Brad's passion for Yellowstone and his vast knowledge of the wildlife made our day and added to our enjoyment during the rest of our week at Yellowstone as well. We highly recommend booking Yellowstone Wildlife Profiles!

Wildlife Code of Ethics

We believe in a strict code of ethics. The animals of Yellowstone face enormous pressure from the sheer number of visitors coming every day to observe them. The park has set forth certain rules that we will adhere to. Mainly, we must not disturb wildlife and we should maintain a good distance to ensure that the animals can carry on with their day-to-day lives and that we stay safe. The current rules include 100 yards from bears, wolves, and cougars (mountain lions) and at least 25 yards from everything else. We appreciate your understanding and so will the animals.
