Immerse yourself in the habitat of this secretive animal with an expert who has been tracking and filming cougars for over a decade.

Cougars (also known as mountain lions) are among the most secretive animals in North America. The best way to learn about them is to search for their tracks in the snow and other sign that they leave behind as they live out their mysterious lives in this wild place called Yellowstone.

Cougar country is rough, steep country. While we can somewhat tailor your experience to your physical ability levels, we are beholden to the territory that cougars call home. Therefore, you should expect to hike or snowshoe (depending on conditions) off-trail over steep terrain with uneven footing.

The reward for your efforts will be a day spent in the beauty of the wild, for cougar country is also some of the most beautiful country to be found. We probably will not spot the elusive predator, but our goal will be to find their tracks and read the stories of their lives in the footprints and other sign left behind. Along the way, you can learn about tracking, cougar behavior and ecology, current research, and the geology and ecology of the landscapes cougars call home.

Excellent Wildlife Interpreters!
Sue P.
As always, we had a wonderful time with Brad in April. While there was still a lot of snow on the ground and many of the ponds were still frozen over, we still saw a variety of Yellowstone wildlife...We have been in several classes with Carolyn as well. They are both excellent wildlife interpreters! If you go with one of them or someone from their company, you are guaranteed to learn a lot about Yellowstone wildlife while you are seeing it. Thanks, Brad! Incidentally, for anyone interested in wolves, I would recommend "The Grand Lady of Yellowstone" by Brad Bulin. This book is full of interesting and entertaining stories about wolves in Yellowstone.
Highlight of Our Trip
Tammy E.
We just got back from a wonderful trip to Yellowstone and the Highlight of the trip was our Wolves and Wildlife Tour with Yellowstone Wildlife Profiles. Josh was our guide and he was fantastic. So patient with our son's questions and ours. My son who is 8 is still talking about this day to everyone who asks about our trip. We saw wolves from two different packs, a grizzly, black bear, pronghorns, mountain goats, bison, and a big horn sheep plus an osprey nest with babies and two adults flying around. You will not regret picking Yellowstone Wildlife Profiles to guide you through the Lamar valley or anywhere else in the Park!
Extremely Knowledgeable
Sally & Tom
Brad and his crew are extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of YNP. Brad has walked many of the animal trails that cannot be seen from the road, so he knows where animals are likely to show up and where they might be headed. The guides are very personal and patient with questions at all levels. Their enthusiasm for Yellowstone and their wish to inspire others rubs off on everyone who takes the tour. We will remember our adventures with Yellowstone Wildlife Profiles forever.

Wildlife Code of Ethics

We believe in a strict code of ethics. The animals of Yellowstone face enormous pressure from the sheer number of visitors coming every day to observe them. The park has set forth certain rules that we will adhere to. Mainly, we must not disturb wildlife and we should maintain a good distance to ensure that the animals can carry on with their day-to-day lives and that we stay safe. The current rules include 100 yards from bears, wolves, and cougars (mountain lions) and at least 25 yards from everything else. We appreciate your understanding and so will the animals.
